Overweight and Pregnancy – You Should Know That This

Many expectant mothers, who know that they put too much on the scale, therefore be concerned: it’s bad for the baby? Or increases the risk of complications at birth?

As so often, is also on the case. For example how pronounced the overweight now really is. For example, 120 kilos are weight; also for a 1.85 m tall woman a woman who measures just 1.65 metres, but involves massive overweight.

Go early to the specialists in diabetes

The pregnant woman is normal, eats the overweight has in itself no legal consequences for the unborn child. Often however, women with pronounced overweight have diabetes. It is very important that this is – carefully monitored and controlled, as early in the pregnancy. Usually, obstetricians and gynecologists to refer the expectant mother to a specialist – an internist or diabetologists.

Very strong women, it is more difficult to make the usual Ultrasound: then comparatively much “cushion” is located between the transducer and the child. This can be worse for example, size and weight of the baby. The meaningful record of the child’s heartbeat and labor under the birth is difficult. Derive the childlike heart sounds not as usual through the maternal abdominal wall through, does that but also internally. The alternative is a small head rinds electrode: sits on a thin cable, is led through the vagina of the woman to the head of the child and fixed. So the heart can be best derived. Also, the woman taking birth can move without any bother recording the child’s heartbeat.

And how it looks with the birth itself?

Normally, also severely obese women can bring their children themselves to the world. As long as they are good movable and can make space for the child between the legs. A natural birth also has the advantage, that it will not be a cut through the abdominal wall: the C-section scar is located in the so-called fatty apron, where hardly any air from the wound. This can delay their healing.

A tip: Organize a midwives – or ‘Birth planning conversation’ best early in the clinic of your choice. That will help to create clarity and thus security for all parties involved.
